Indigo Research

Above is our Indigo Dress for The ACE funded Living dress project produced by Cabasa carnival, arts I was a lead artists on the project. Researching indigo and the cultural practices around the world. I designed a Batik I which we waxed and dipped in the indigo vat. The Batik design was a culmination of imagery around Indigo as a spirit of Earth and water and how that’s representing in different cultures around the world.

Below is the Batik design. Containing Adire symbols and imagery from west African Indigo practices and Ikat patterns from south America’s rich connection with Indigo. Through this process I barely scratched the service of an indigo’s rich history I would love to delve further and do more extensive research.
