Designed and Batiked by myself with help from volunteers at the Vale (Mossley).
The design is influenced by west African textile processes Adire and Adinkra as well as the Orixa Nanã Buruquê. Lots of research goes into designs created with community groups, and in this design specifically as it speaks to the diversity of Greater Manchester and it’s community of Mancunians with west African heritage, this is represented with ABC wax prints. ABC wax was a textile company based in Hyde(Gr Manchester) producing Dutch African wax prints for many years which closed down in 2005 when they permanently moved production to Ghana.
